Paste Magazine published their “100 Best Comic Book Characters of All Time” list this week and while several super heroes made the cut, the list was dominated overall by a variety of supporting characters and indie creations. Highlights of the list included some of my own personal favorites such as Tank Girl (#97), Michonne of The Walking Dead (#77), Marv of Sin City (#63), Enid Coleslaw of Ghost World (#35) and of course my two imaginary dads, Hulk (#29) and The Thing (#18). Some other notable ‘capeless’ characters included were Lucas “Dodge” Caravaggio of Locke & Key (#100), Suzie of Sex Criminals (#98), Snow White of Fables (#47) Rorschach of The Watchmen (#57), Alana of Saga (#54), Lone Wolf and Cub (#37), Miyamoto Usagi of Usagi Yojimbo (#28), Spider Jerusalem of Transmetropolitan (#22), and Jesse Custer of Preacher (#19) to just name a few. The top ten on the list consisted of a mix of the usual suspects as well as one great, but unexpected addition from the Hernandez Brothers alternative staple Love and Rockets series. Here are the top ten in descending order:
10. Margarita Luisa “Maggie” Chascarrillo (Love and Rockets)
9. Wolverine
8. Morpheus (Sandman)
7. Captain America
6. Wonder Woman
5. Daredevil
4. The Joker
3. Superman
2. Spider-Man
1. Batman
Did all of your favorites make the cut?
